Dan Patch District

June 2010

District Executive’s Corner

The beginning of summer is always a very exciting time, there’s all kinds of activities and fun to look forward to, swim lessons, summer camps, family vacations, summer holidays, weddings, graduations, and much more.

Inevitably, though, we will all get to August 1st and realize that the end of the summer is nearer than the beginning and that we are running out of things to do, or specifically, running out of things for our children to do that doesn’t involve them roaming freely around your house with matches and sharp, pointy sticks.

The good news is that you can still sign up to send them to spend a few days at any of our camps, and let them run around with other the other Scouts who have found themselves a couple of weekends shy of a full summer.

Already went to camp in June?  No problem!  Just pick a different camp and you’ll get a completely different program.  Didn’t sign up in December?  No sweat!  We always have plenty of space at the end of the summer, often you can find space a week or two ahead of time.

So, enjoy your summer and all the great things you have planned, but remember camp when you run out of things to do and your children are starting to look like the young men from Lord of the Flies or worse, game testers for Sony!

Day Camp 2010

Once again, the Dan Patch district will be offering a GREAT Day Camp experience for all interested Cub Scouts in the district during the summer of 2010.  This year is going to be a new format in response to a lot of comments and suggestions that we have received over the past couple of years, and we hope that this will work better for everyone’s schedule.

This year’s Day Camp is going to be on July 19th at Cleary Lake park in Prior Lake.  This is the only camp being offered by Dan Patch this year, and space will be limited so early registration will be encouraged.   Forms and information have been sent to your unit leaders and to the Dan Patch website.

As always, we are in need of leaders and Boy Scouts who are willing to help staff this event, so if you are interested, please contact Julie Meyers at rnjulie@mchsi.com

See you at Day Camp!

Adult Leader Training
As we have discussed at roundtables this year, please make sure that you are sending your leaders to training over the summer and throughout the fall for the positions that they have just taken on.  Many Cub Scouts leaders will be in need of leader specific training for their new and upcoming leadership role, and many new parents will be stepping up to take on new jobs with Troops and Crews.  Be sure to check out http://training.nsbsa.org/ for all of the training available here in Dan Patch, as well as in other districts around the council, and all of the available online training.

Every Scout deserves a trained leader, and every leader deserves the help and support that training gives you as you take on this important role in your Pack, Troop, or Crew!

Friends of Scouting

The Dan Patch Friends of Scouting campaign is drawing to an end and we need everyone’s help to get this job done.  We are currently $17,000 short of our Family Campaign goal and $17,000 short of our Community Campaign goal, which means that we have a bit of work ahead of us if we are going to finish this campaign before June 30th

Please make sure that you have made a donation through your unit, and that your unit has already met or exceeded their goal.  If this is already done or in progress, please check to see if your company will match your gift or the time you spend volunteering with a grant to the Boy Scouts.  This is FREE MONEY that your company gives to community organizations!

Friends of Scouting ensures that our Camps are supported, that our boys received the best program possible, and that FEES stay as low as possible.  Not making our Friends of Scouting goal puts all of these at risk.

For more information, or to find out how you can help, call or email your friendly neighborhood District Executive, Aaron Nicklay at 763-231-7225 or anicklay@nsbsa.org.
