Used Scout Uniforms
Needed
South Side
Uniform Exchange Program to Help Scouts in Need
Needed:
Used Cub Scout & Boy Scout shirts, neckerchiefs, slides, belts, pants,
etc., in gently used, good condition, to give to Scouts from
low-income families located anywhere in the Twin Cities southern
suburbs.
·
We need blue Cub Scout
shirts of all sizes.
·
We need tan Boy Scout shirts
of all sizes, particularly for Webelos moving to tan shirts.
Collect:
Please ask all current (and recently
departed) Scouts and Scouters in your units to donate their out-grown or
no-longer-needed Scout uniform items.
·
Proactive asking yields
better results than hoping parents will think to donate items they no
longer need.
·
Periodically ask all parents to
donate shirts as their Scouts outgrow their current shirt and get a new
one.
·
When Webelos change to tan
shirts, ask them to donate their blue uniform shirts to the program.
·
When Webelos cross over into
Boy Scouts and no longer need their Webelos neckerchief and slide,
please ask them to donate their Webelos neckerchiefs, slides, and blue
uniform shirts to the program.
·
If parents want to keep a shirt
with patches as a keepsake, kindly suggest they remove the patches and
donate the shirt. They can attach the patches to a piece of
appropriately colored fabric from a fabric shop.
·
As Cubs move from one rank to
the next and get new neckerchiefs and slides, please ask them to give
their old ones to the program.
·
Yard sale & thrift shop
enthusiasts: Please buy what you find as cheaply as possible and donate
them. Bob Elliott will reimburse reasonable costs if requested.
·
Cash donations are gratefully
accepted (to be used to subsidize purchases of uniform items at Scout
Shops, eBay, etc., when that size or type of item is not available
through this program). Units can administer funds.
Help Your Unit 1st:
Each unit should
make sure its own families in need are served first.
·
Please donate all remaining
uniform items, to be shared with families in need who belong to other
units in Chief Black Dog, Dan Patch, Rolling Meadows, Prairie Lakes and
Kaposia Districts.
·
When we really get rolling and
have enough items to meet needs beyond Chief Black Dog, Dan Patch,
Rolling Meadows, Prairie Lakes and Kaposia Districts, items will be
shared with the Zulu (African-American) and Silver Maple (Asian)
Districts, and through the Council’s Hispanic Outreach program.
Bring:
uniform items to Roundtables and
call Bob Elliott at the number below so I can be there to get
them.
·
Or, call me at the number below
if you have several items to donate and I’ll come get them from you.
·
I will store them until they
find new homes with families in need, and distribute them as required.

Uniform Exchange Open
Houses: When we get enough
uniforms to make it worth while, I will schedule open houses at Shepherd
of the Valley Lutheran Church in Apple Valley and other locations
farther west.
·
Boys will be permitted to come
and get items they may need, and when possible exchange their out-grown
items for their new ones.
·
Boys will be encouraged to
donate outgrown items for next size up items.
·
Times and dates of open houses
will be announced on the Chief Black Dog District website.
